Snaking Through Fashion

Apparently I'm on a purple kick this week, because when I saw this clutch, I had to blog about it, even after Monday's purple smoking shoes:

This is classic yet forward-thinking, with its jewel tone and snake print, plus the little touch of Lucite on the bar. It's almost a chameleon bag, able to coordinate with many colors and styles--giving a hard edge of contrast to a flowing butter skirt, or adding a chic touch to a little black dress. If you're in the market for a clutch right now, check this one out before it slithers away.

I'm on a Boat (No I'm Not)

According to the fashion world, resort time is now upon us. I'm not sure what that means, exactly, though I suspect it's code for "let's all go to St. Barth's to escape the dreary winter skies of home." Sadly, having multiple jobs and a bank account that would make approximately no one jealous, I am not the kind of lady who can slip away for such an excursion. However, that doesn't mean I don't have an eye on a nice resort shoe or two. Here's one:

It's nautical without being overbearing, and I have the feeling that it could transcend seasonal parameters. Plus, at under $100, it's kind of a bargain (I mean, considering other resort options, like this or this). Also, if you have a White House Black Market nearby--say, in your local shopping mall--I highly recommend stopping in, as their sales associates are usually helpful and nice! They'll be able to help you find a nice skirt or blouse to go along with your new sail-ready shoes.

Mrs. Mia Wallace

There is nothing easier in this whole wide world than to make your own Halloween costume, if you only have the right inspiration. For three or four years running, mine was Mrs. Mia Wallace of Pulp Fiction fame, usually BEFORE her, um, incident. It's so straightforward that you probably have at least half of the elements you need in your closet already!

For example, you're going to need a simple pair of black pants--preferably with a mild crop, but since those can be hard to find this time of year, a nice tuxedo pant will suffice:

Then you need a plain white tailored button-down shirt:

The shoes are simple--just a pair of gold flats (or any flats, really, if you don't have gold):

To top it all off, get yourself a Peggy Sue wig:

Now you're all set to spice up the campus Halloween dance, Tarantino style. And the best part is that even if you have to go out and buy each of these elements, at least the first three are easily justified as necessary closet staples. Enjoy!

Buy the pants through White House Black Market for $88.00.

Buy the shirt through Victoria's Secret for $28.00.

Buy the shoes through Dillard's for $59.99.

Buy the wig through Costume Kingdom for $10.99.

A Princess on Your Big Day

This being the summer and all, there are quite a few weddings afoot. I personally know four couples who have been married since Memorial Day weekend. So I thought that perhaps this would be a good time to discuss my new favorite wedding dress.

This is the limited edition bridal gown from White House Black Market, a store that I particularly enjoy. (The salesgirls at the WHBM near my parents' house are very helpful and fun.) The company calls the color of their new gown ecru, but it looks almost pure-white in photos, and it can be worn with or without straps. A cute sloping hem adds visual interest, as does the fan pleating at the bust. Add a mixed bouquet of roses and hydrangeas and some purple shoes for a twist on the traditional wedding, or whatever you will--I can almost guarantee that this dress will elicit compliments no matter what!
